Case Study - Bullying
Through the LinkedIn online learning platform learning the cause of handling workplace bullying, I realised bullying is everywhere, and sometimes people hesitate to make a complaint. I believe there are 3 main reasons for that. First of all, the person who being bullying are not realized they are being bullied due to less awareness about being bullying, I think people should understand that bullying could be various forms such as over workload, yealing, or any other behaver cause of psychological problems (stress, anxiety and depression) or physical problems (lack of sleep, heart problems, and headaches), and I believe that once people have a more clear definition of being bullied, they or their colleagues would stand up to bullying say no! Secondly, some person may be afraid to complain bullying because of imbalance power in the workplace. For example, if the team leader's workload is comparatively higher than other colleagues and threat you if you cannot finish the job, you will replace by others. To keep the job, you may decide to say nothing to the bullying behaviours. Finally, some employees' choice to say nothing about the bullying behaviours could happen because there is no good culture to encourage them to be tall, and others may decide to ignore such behaviour to avoid trouble. A company needs to have a good culture to protect its most valuable assets.
We can often see the applicant would be victimised beyond the original incident if the complaint of inappropriate behaviours does not deal well. Few ways to help people to file a claim. First of all, when a person comes to you, you need to listen to the stories from both sides and do to showing the reaction to quickly, but it also is important to have eye contact and a friendly face when listening. The person in higher positions could create a better culture for people to have equal rights by punishing the inappropriate behaviour and encouraging good behaviour, raising the awareness of bullying in the workplace because many bullies actually do not realise they bully others.
